Study program 📊
The dental medicine curriculum at MU Varna is a six-year program. It includes ten semesters of study.
- In the first two years, you'll be learning medical and biological subjects. 👩🏼🔬
- From the second to the tenth semester, you'll receive specialised training in general medical and clinical dental disciplines. 🏥
After the 6th and 8th semesters you do 2 training practices of 30 calendar days each. After the 10th semester, you complete a 135-day clinical practice internship.
Here's a more detailed summary of the curriculum:
1st Year
During your first year in the dentistry program, you will study chemistry, physics, human biology, human genetics, and dental materials. Additionally, you will learn about the functional anatomy of the masticatory system, dental morphology, and occlusion.
2nd Year
In this year, you will learn about the basic structures of the body such as anatomy, biochemistry, and human physiology. You will also study social medicine and medical ethics. In addition, you will learn about pharmacology, which is the science of drugs and how they interact with the body. You will also study prosthetic dentistry, which involves replacing missing teeth, as well as paediatric and conservative dentistry. Finally, you will learn about how to deal with medical emergencies and disasters.
3rd Year
In the third year of the dentistry program, you will expand your knowledge of pharmacology and learn about maintaining hygiene and controlling epidemics. You'll also study the microscopic organisms that cause disease, how they affect the body, and how to treat them. Additionally, you will study surgery and dentistry for public health. You will learn how to use X-rays to diagnose dental issues and practise the basics of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
4th year
In your 4th year, you will focus on learning how to provide preventative dental care, including the use of imaging techniques. You will also learn about treating young patients with dental and prosthetic needs. Additionally, you will study general medical issues such as internal medicine and pathology, as well as legal and ethical aspects of dentistry like forensic medicine. In this year, you will also study conditions related to the gums, teeth and mouth, such as orthodontics, periodontology, and oral mucosa diseases.
5th year
In your 5th year of the dentistry program, you will learn about dental implantology and conditions related to the skin, eyes, and nervous system. You will also continue to gain clinical experience in various dental fields, further developing your skills and knowledge.

Activities 🪥
You'll learn both theoretically and practically through lectures, seminars, clinical work with dental patients, and self-training. In the early years of the program, you'll spend more time in the classroom, attending lectures and lab sessions. As you progress through the program, you'll have more opportunities for clinical experiences. You're gonna work with patients under the supervision of licensed dentists.
Laboratory Sessions
These sessions will allow you to get hands-on experience with dental instruments and procedures.
Clinical Sessions
Starting in your 3rd year, you'll begin working with patients in a clinical setting. You'll be supervised by experienced dentists as you work on real patients.
Dental Outreach
You may have the opportunity to participate in dental outreach programs, providing care to underserved populations.
Research
There may be opportunities to participate in research projects, either through the university or through partnerships with local dental organisations.
